A native of Northern Arizona, Dr. Aaron Burr is an advocate for student achievement and new music. At Central Washington University, he serves as Lecturer of Saxophone where his duties include teaching applied saxophone lessons, music theory, chamber music, and jazz band III. Dr. Burr’s students have excelled at the regional and state levels, performing for conferences and becoming active educators and performers throughout the country.

As an active performer, Dr. Burr has performed as a soloist with the Central Washington University Wind Ensemble and University of Northern Colorado chamber players, as well as given guest recitals and masterclasses throughout the United States. He has also had the opportunity to perform with Plano Symphony Orchestra, San Angelo Symphony Orchestra, Mesquite Symphony Orchestra, and the New Texas Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Dr. Burr has a passion for commissioning new music for the tenor saxophone, recently leading several consortiums for tenor saxophone and fixed media.

Dr. Burr performs as a member of Duo Velox, along with clarinetist Dr. Kaitlyn Neufeld, and as the tenor saxophonist with the newly formed Desiderata Quartet. Duo Velox regularly performs throughout the United States, and actively commissions new repertoire, most recently leading the consortium for Companions of Chromaticity by Alyssa Morris.

As a jazz musician, Dr. Burr recently gave a concert focusing on the music of Dexter Gordon, and has performed with distinguished musicians such as Gary Smulyan, Jeff Coffin, and Doc Sevrinsen.

Dr. Burr holds a Doctor of Arts degree in saxophone performance, with a secondary emphasis in conducting, where he studied with Dr. Andrew Dahlke and Dr. Wesley Broadnax respectively. His dissertation focused on three new pieces for clarinet and saxophone duo by John Kosch, Attakorn Sookjaeng, and Caleb Westby. He also holds a Master of Music degree in saxophone performance from The University of New Mexico and a Bachelor of Music in saxophone performance from Northern Arizona University. Dr. Burr is fortunate to have such wonderful mentors and teachers, including Andrew Dahlke, Wesley Broadnax, Eric Lau, Glenn Kostur, Ashley Kelly, and Jonathan Bergeron.

Dr. Burr is a D’Addario Woodwinds Educator Artist, as well as an endorsing artist for Dahlke Mouthpieces.
